Everyone in the market for a home gym wants to know which is the perfect home gym to buy, or course. The truth is that the right home fitness gym for you will depend on your fitness goals, your personal preferences, and your budget. The perfect home gym for your neighbor may not be the right home fitness gym for you.
Things to Consider When Buying a Home gym
What are your fitness goals? Do you just want a good cardio workout? If so, a treadmill or elliptical machine will probably serve you well. Do you just want to do some strength training? In that case, some simple weights might do the trick. Do you want a full body workout? Then you might want to look at a "total gym" type of set-up that will allow you to do multiple exercises on one machine. You can do more than 30 different exercises on some of those! So the perfect home gym for you will depend in part on what you want to accomplish with it.
What kind of exercise do you enjoy doing? There is no sense buying a home fitness gym that you won't enjoy using, because if you don't like it, you won't do it often and it won't do you any good. If you're not sure what you enjoy, you might want to join a gym where you can use different types of equipment to see what you like. Don't just try something once, but see how you feel about doing it on a regular basis over time. Some companies that sell home gyms will let you take the equipment home for a period of time to try it out, and if you decide you don't like it, you can return it and get your money back. This is also a good idea. What is not a good idea is investing a lot of money in something if you're not positive you're going to like it.
How much space do you have in your home? The perfect home gym for you is obviously one you can fit in your house. Some home gyms take up a lot of room and if you live in a small apartment that may be a problem for you. If you have a basement or a spare bedroom, space may not be an issue for you. But if your home fitness gym is going to go in your living room, make sure it won't be constantly getting in your way. If you have to try to store it out of the way somewhere, it may be inconvenient to use and of course you won't get much benefit from it if you don't use it.
What is your budget for exercise equipment? You can spend a lot of money on a home fitness gym, if you have the money to spend, but obviously the perfect home gym for you is one that doesn't eat up your grocery money for the next six months. You can easily spend between $2000 and $4000 on a home gym, or even more. On the other hand, you can buy a treadmill for just $600 or $700. Or you can join a gym for $60 or $70 a month. It all depends on your needs and your budget. Many companies that sell home gyms do offer financing options, though, so don't rule out a more costly gym if you think it's what you need. And if you consider the cost of joining a gym over a period of a couple years, the cost of a gym at home doesn't seem as steep as it might seem at first.
